
A 35-year-old man presented to the emergency department with a fever, cough and chest pain. The chest radiographs were interpreted as normal by the admitting physician. A chest CT was requested because of elevated D-dimers.
Frontal & Lateral Chest X-ray. Subtle consolidation (arrows)is seen in the internal segment of the middle lobe, best appreciated on the lateral view.
Axial images show cylindrical bronchiectasis in the internal segment of the right middle lobe. Coronal & sagittal reformats also show the extent of the peripheral consolidation. There was no pulmonary embolism.
