83 y-o woman. Thoracic chest pain. Coronary arteries angiography: no significant stenosis.

Radiological findings

Bedside chest X-ray at entry. Relative hyperlucency of the left hemithorax. The left hilum not clearly defined. Note the thickened left apical cap.

CT findings

CT axial section through the apex. Oval-shaped opacity connected to a thickened pleura. Dilated bronchi within the consolidation.
Sagittal CT thick section reformation. Consolidation of the left apex (arrows) containing branches of the culminal bronchus. Note the forward displaced main left fissure (arrowhead).

Subsegmental atelectasis of the left upper lobe. No proximal obstruction but chronic dilatation of bronchi.
